…the imperative to convert their indigenous faith-based thinking into an alien ‘secular Esperanto’ poses two levels of threat. One is that it will veil or distort that which is most distinctive about their religious convictions. For example, the secular humanist language of ‘autonomy’, or even that of ‘dignity’, for them, just does not convey the supremely important truth about the mystery of human embodiment, which is that it is a sacred trust and not simply a platform for rational self-direction or a vehicle for the satisfaction of desire.
